So Who Is Steve Varela and what is his story?

If the Varela name sounds familiar … IT SHOULD. There are Varela’s EVERYWHERE in Ventura County (and throughout California) … and YES, they are ALL RELATED.

Steve is a life long Ventura County resident. He was born and raised in the city of Oxnard. He attended Santa Clara Elementary school and Santa Clara High School graduating in 1985.

While at Santa Clara High School, Steve played basketball for the legendary Coach C, where he went on to win a CIF Southern Section Championship. From there, Steve went on to attend Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where he was a member of their “CREW” rowing team. While at Loyola, Steve had the privilege of befriending the late great HANK GATHERS and former NBA player Bo Kimble. Those relationships have had a long and lasting positive effect on Steve.

After graduating from Loyola Marymount, Steve came home to Oxnard to start a new chapter in his life.

Steve immersed himself in the Oxnard community. He began coaching basketball and football at Santa Clara High School where he won several more championships. He then moved over to St. Bonaventure High School where he coached in their football program during the most successful years under Coach T. As an offensive coordinator of some of the finest talent to ever come through Ventura County, Steve was able to establish and cultivate relationships with some of COLLEGE FOOTBALL’S BIGGEST NAMES. From the great Pete Carroll at USC, to Ed Orgeron (current head coach at LSU), Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkesian, Marcus Tuiaosospo, Tee Martin, and current USC coach Todd Helton … to name a few. Steve has had a hand in placing over a dozen athletes in Division 1 college football programs throughout the country.

Prior to being recruited by Trades United, Steve worked as an insurance broker in Oxnard for over 15 years. After that, he entered the “Farm Labor” industry where he was very successful. Trades United was VERY LUCKY to get such a GREAT and VALUABLE ASSET to our family.

Steve is happily married to the former Michelle Towers (daughter of legendary surfboard manufacturer and Port Hueneme ICON Butch Towers). Together they have two beautiful children, Stevie Varela (freshman in college) and Olivia Varela (Oxnard High School Dance Team). Steve also has an older daughter he is extremely proud of, Brice Montanez, who lives in Tennessee with her husband and children. That makes Steve … a GRANDPA!!!

In Steve’s spare time when he is not WAXING EVERYONE IN DARTS … you will find him “TALKING” … to ANYONE, ANYWHERE and at ANYTIME about his FAVORITE COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM … USC!

Trades United will be sending Steve and his wife on a three day Ensenada Cruise as a thank you for your tireless efforts.

Cheers Steve … Job well done!!!
